Measure & fit

Your café curtain rod will be made to your exact measurement. Here are some tips to get your measurements right.

Floating style café curtain rods

Measuring for floating style rods

For this fitting, you'll need to provide the full width of the rod you need - including the finials on each end.

  • In situ, measure the exact length you want your café curtain rod to be - including finials.

  • The ends of the rod will be mounted on hooks, as shown. So check you have space to screw into the frame.

Each finial has a small hole for the mounting hooks. If the holes in the finials aren’t aligned, you may need to slightly turn them. They sometimes come loose during postage.

Step 1.
Hold the curtain rod centred above the window, and mark and drill the first pilot hole location in line with this hole.

Step 2.
Screw in your first hook and mount the rod on this side.

Step 3.
Slide your curtain onto the rod, then mount the rod on the second mounting hook.

Step 4.
Check it's horizontal with a spirit level, then mark and drill the second pilot hole location. Screw in the second hook.

Recess fit café curtain rods

Measuring for a recess fit

Provide the exact width of the inside of the recess where you want to mount your curtain rod.

This fitting allows for slight adjustments, so we'll supply the rod ever-so-slightly short, and you can adjust it to fit snugly.

These are designed to be mounted on the surface, and have a 2 cm base with 2 screw holes. Measure your space to allow room for the 2 cm base at each end.

Measuring tips

Here's how to get the perfect fit with our signature floating café curtain rods:

  • Provide the full width of the rod you need - this includes the finials on each end.
  • The finials sit on small hooks, as shown above. Make sure you have space to screw these hooks into a suitable surface - usually the outer frame, casing, or architrave.
  • If you're fixing to a sliding sash window, plan to fix your rods to the casing outside the sliding portion.
  • When measuring for a bay window, remember to leave a small, even gap between the rods in each corner, for a neat finish.

An ideal setup is illustrated below. As always, please get in touch with any questions.

Fitting instructions

To measure up, simply find the exact width of your recess.

We'll supply a finished rod that's ever-so-slightly shorter than your measurements.

This fitting allows for small adjustments, allowing you to make your finished rod up to ~0.3cm longer in situ. This helps guarantee a snug fit.

Tip: It's best to measure at the point you want to mount the rod. If you have a period property, you'll likely know that some walls can be uneven or sloping.
